Function & confidence

Your first appointment is an opportunity for us to understand what you are experiencing, how it is affecting you and what you would like to improve.

Rather than beginning with a standard treatment routine, the first step is to understand your symptoms, movement, functional difficulties, relevant medical history and recovery goals.

Request an Assessment \| Visit Us

You do not need to arrive with a large file of medical documents.

However, if relevant to your present concern, it may be helpful to bring:

X-rays, MRI, CT or other relevant imaging reports

Surgical discharge papers

Instructions or precautions provided by your surgeon or doctor

Previous physiotherapy or treatment information

Any other reports that may be relevant to your rehabilitation

If you do not have reports available, you can still contact the clinic to discuss your concern.

Comfortable clothing is generally recommended.

Where appropriate, the physiotherapist may need to observe movement of the affected body area, assess joint movement or evaluate activities such as walking, sitting, standing or functional movements.

Choose clothing that allows you to move comfortably.

1. Understanding Your Concern

The appointment begins with a discussion about your present problem, symptoms and how they are affecting your everyday life.

Relevant previous injuries, surgery, medical history, treatment received and activity or work demands may also be discussed where appropriate.

2. Physiotherapy Assessment

Depending on your concern, the assessment may include relevant aspects of:

movement and joint mobility, strength, balance, coordination, walking, posture, functional activities and movements that reproduce or limit your symptoms.

Not every patient requires every type of assessment.

3. Understanding Your Goals

Improvement means different things to different patients.

For one person it may mean sitting comfortably at work. For another it may mean climbing stairs, walking independently, returning to sport or regaining confidence after surgery.

Your functional priorities help guide rehabilitation planning.

4. Discussing the Rehabilitation Plan

After the assessment, Dr. Anshika Mitra (PT) will explain the relevant findings and discuss the proposed direction of rehabilitation.

The treatment plan may evolve as your condition, movement and functional abilities change.

Will Everyone With the Same Diagnosis Receive the Same Treatment?

Two patients with the same diagnosis may differ considerably in their symptoms, strength, movement, functional limitations, medical background, daily activities and recovery goals.

Physiotherapy therefore needs to consider the individual patient rather than the diagnosis alone.

Can a Family Member or Caregiver Come With Me?

A family member, caregiver or attendant may accompany the patient where appropriate.

This can be particularly useful for elderly patients, neurological rehabilitation, post-surgical recovery, mobility difficulties or situations where family participation forms part of safe day-to-day support.

They can depend on the condition, severity, duration of symptoms, surgery or injury history, physical capacity, medical factors, treatment response and the functional goals being worked towards.

For this reason, The Physio Clinic does not promise a fixed number of sessions or guaranteed recovery timeline before properly understanding the patient.

Progress is reviewed as rehabilitation continues.

If you would like the clinic to understand your concern and help determine an appropriate next step, you can send us a short enquiry.
